Welcome to The
Dutch Language section of DutchX.com. Dutch is a Germanic
language and anyone who is familiar with spoken or written German will
notice many similarities between the two. This, however, is not to say
that Dutch is anything other than a distinct language in its own right.
Many English only speakers will also observe that some words are only
slightly removed from their English counterparts. Although the visitor
to the Netherlands will generally find that English is widely spoken
and rarely is it necessary to speak Dutch, a little knowledge of the
native language always helps and is a courtesy that will be appreciated
in many situations.
